Overview

A dental bridge fills the gap left by a missing tooth. The replacement tooth is joined to crowns that sit over the healthy teeth on each side of the gap.

The supporting teeth are shaped, an impression or scan is taken, and the bridge is fixed in place. It does not come out like a denture.

What to know

  • Replaces missing teeth without surgery
  • Fixed in place, so it does not come out
  • Uses neighbouring teeth as anchors
  • Restores chewing, speech and your smile

Common questions

How is a bridge different from an implant?
A bridge leans on the neighbouring teeth, while an implant stands alone in the bone.
Will the supporting teeth be reshaped?
Yes, they are trimmed to make room for the crowns that hold the bridge.
How do I clean under a bridge?
A floss threader, a small interdental brush or a water flosser lets you clean beneath the replacement tooth.
How long does a bridge last?
Many bridges last ten years or more with good cleaning and regular check-ups.
Is a bridge noticeable?
Bridges are colour-matched and usually blend in with your natural teeth.
