Overview

Canines sometimes fail to come through and become buried in the bone. A minor surgical procedure uncovers the tooth and attaches a small bracket and fine gold chain, so your orthodontist can gently guide it into its proper position over the following months. Canines are important for your bite and smile, so we usually bring them into line rather than remove them.

Common questions

Why not just remove it?
Canines are important for your bite and smile, so we usually try to bring them into line rather than extract them, especially in younger patients.
What does the procedure involve?
The gum over the tooth is lifted, a bracket with a fine chain is bonded on, and the area is closed. The chain is later connected to your braces or aligners.
Is it sore afterwards?
Usually mild tenderness and swelling for a few days, managed easily with simple pain relief and soft foods.
