Overview
An implant-supported crown is a single artificial tooth that attaches to one implant in the jaw. It is a common way to replace one missing tooth without touching the teeth on either side.
Once the implant has bonded with the bone, a connector called an abutment is fitted and the crown is placed on top. The crown is shaped and shaded to blend with your other teeth.
What to know
- Replaces one missing tooth on its own implant
- Does not rely on the neighbouring teeth
- Crown is matched to your natural teeth
- Attached once the implant has healed
- Clean around it like a natural tooth
Common questions
Why choose an implant crown over a bridge?
An implant crown stands on its own and does not need the neighbouring teeth to be ground down, which helps keep them intact.
Is the crown fixed or removable?
It is fixed. The crown is either screwed or cemented onto the implant and stays in place; only your dentist can remove it.
Will it look natural?
Yes. The crown is made in a colour and shape to match your nearby teeth so it blends in.
How do I look after it?
Brush and clean between your teeth as normal, including around the implant crown, and keep up your regular check-ups.
Can the crown be replaced later?
Yes. If the crown wears or chips over the years, it can usually be remade without disturbing the implant.
