Overview

Oral sedation uses a prescribed tablet taken before your appointment to help you feel relaxed and sleepy. You stay awake but often feel very calm and may remember little of the visit.

Because the medicine takes time to wear off, you will need someone to drive you home and stay with you. Your dentist will assess whether it suits you.

What to know

  • A tablet helps you feel calm and drowsy
  • You stay awake but deeply relaxed
  • You may remember little of the appointment
  • You must arrange a ride home and a carer
  • Tell us all your medicines and health conditions
