Sensitive teeth cause a quick, sharp twinge in response to cold, heat, sweet foods or brushing. It happens when the softer layer under the enamel, or the root, becomes exposed.
Common causes include worn enamel, receding gums, grinding and acidic diets. Most sensitivity can be eased once the cause is found.
