Overview
A night guard sits in your mouth for hours, so it needs cleaning each day to stay fresh and free of bacteria. With good care it will last longer and stay comfortable.
Avoid heat, which can warp the guard, and bring it to your check-ups so your dentist can inspect the fit.
What to know
- Rinse and brush it after each use
- Let it dry fully before storing
- Keep it away from heat and hot water
- Store it in its case, out of reach of pets
- Bring it to your dental check-ups
Caring for it
- Rinse the guard with cool water as soon as you take it out.
- Brush it gently with a soft brush and mild soap, not toothpaste.
- Let it air dry fully before putting it away.
- Store it in its ventilated case, not loose in a bag.
- Keep it well away from hot water, heaters and sunlight.
- Keep it out of reach of dogs, which often chew them.
- Check it for cracks or rough spots and report any changes.
- Bring it to your check-ups so the fit can be reviewed.
Common questions
Can I use toothpaste on it?
Avoid toothpaste, as it can be abrasive. Mild soap is gentler.
Why must I keep it away from heat?
Heat can warp the guard so it no longer fits.
How do I store it?
Dry, in its ventilated case, away from pets and heat.
How often should I deep clean it?
An occasional soak in a cleaner can help, as your dentist advises.
When should I replace it?
If it cracks, no longer fits, or your dentist recommends it.
